Chinoiserie, an 18th century European style influenced by imported Chinese goods, is one of my favorite styles. Since I lived in Asia for 18 years, I learned to appreciate Asian art and history, and I find the meld of Western and Chinese influences in chinoiserie painting to be especially piquant. My vignettes, derived from a large mural I painted for a residence, are a combination of my own personal style and chinoiserie.

Humor, love of animals and color are my chinoiserie interpretation. This lemur as transfixed by the audacity of the butterfly on his peony. Will he eat it or just admire it?
