My client needed a chinoiserie statement for her very vertical entry. The walls on the south, north and west walls were over 20 feet high, and there was a staircase leading to the mezzanine on the north wall. She wanted lots of animals, and wanted the scale to work so she could see and admire all the creatures all the way to the very top.
The images were painted on traditional canvas that had been painted with 7 value gradations of almost black purple to palest grey lavender topped with a dusting of pale blue to match the ceiling. The bottom area of each canvas is filled with the activities of little chinoiserie people on their boats, in their pavillons, walking over bridges and up staircases, playing music and having tea......and some privileged few, escaping on the backs of birds or being towed into the heavens by butterflies! All Jenoiserie photos were taken by ace photographer, Chris Landry.
