Chinoiserie Mural and Me
Chinoiserie is one of my favorite styles, and I have adapted to make it my own. I have had some training in Chinese painting (not sumi-e, that's Japanese) in Manila and Tainan, and working in chinoiserie has been a natural extension of my Asian training and experience.
My clients had fallen in love with the hand-painted chinoiserie wallpaper in the billiard room at the Muckross estate in Ireland, and I had the chance to see the same when I went to Ireland with my Uncle Bert in 2001. It seemed like fate, and my clients asked me to paint a chinoiserie living room for them. Since the living room, while it wasn't large, had many sections and turns, I painted the canvases in many pieces. (My test of character appears to be in situations where I am given projects where I have to do a lot of measuring and math challenges. I hate math!)
