The Imperial Family Arrives

With my garden hose

I humbly wash

the feet of these aristocrats

as they progress in arrogance

across my garden.

All winter, their knotted corms

gripped like knuckles

into frozen earth.

Today, green spikes guard

their magnificence,

transparent and formidable

in robes of gauzy purple,

white and gold.
